Rethinking Your Weight Loss Journey
By Sukhi Basra, Independent Prescribing Pharmacist & Founder, The London PharmaClinic
Vice Chair, National Pharmacy Association | Chair, Policy & Practice Committee
Every blog on this site starts the same way with a patient.
A heartfelt question, an email, a quiet moment in consultation.
“Do I need the highest dose of Mounjaro to see results?”
“Why is that online clinic offering Wegovy so cheap?”
“Am I the only one feeling unsure about this?”
If one person is asking, I know many others are wondering the same. So I write. Because this is your health. And it deserves answers you can trust.
This Isn’t a Race. It’s a Relationship.
Weight loss injections like Wegovy (semaglutide) and Mounjaro (tirzepatide) have transformed how we approach obesity. But somewhere along the line, the conversation became a race:
- Who can get to the highest dose first?
- Who offers the cheapest prescription?
- Who promises the fastest results?
But your body is not a competition.
And your weight loss journey is not a flash sale.
Behind every successful outcome is not just a dose but a story. A plan. A partnership.
That’s why your care needs to be personalised, protected, and paced not pressured.

What the Research Actually Says
Here’s what evidence and clinical experience are telling us:
- Many patients do not need the highest dose to achieve sustainable weight loss
- Lower or micro-dosing can reduce side effects and improve tolerability
- Outcomes improve when care is personalised, not protocol-driven
- Long-term success relies on nutritional guidance, lifestyle support, and mindset coaching
At The London PharmaClinic, we look at the whole picture: your hormones, your sleep, your habits, your hopes and create a plan that supports all of it. Because weight loss isn’t just about shrinking numbers; it’s about rebuilding trust in your body.
What Are You Actually Getting?
In the wave of online clinics and rapid-access options, I urge you to look beyond the headline price. Because what appears cheap might come at a high cost:
- No proper clinical consultation
- No follow-up care
- No emotional or nutritional support
- No human touch
Sometimes a higher price reflects something valuable:
✔️ Time with a qualified prescriber
✔️ Ongoing support and check-ins
✔️ Safety nets when things feel off
✔️ A real person who remembers your name
Real value lies in safe, supported, evidence-based care not just the price of a pen.
My Role in Changing the Rules
As the first female Vice Chair in the National Pharmacy Association’s 104-year history, and Chair of its Policy & Practice Committee, I’ve been proud to help shape national guidance for patient safety.
We’ve worked closely with the GPhC, MHRA, and ASA to:
- Make virtual or face-to-face consultation essential before prescribing GLP-1 meds
- Ban discount codes, referral offers, and influencer ads for POMs
- End misleading before-and-after advertising tied to named medications
- Highlight the importance of knowing the patient not just filling a script
I’ve spoken about this publicly on the BBC, calling for tighter regulation and safer prescribing. These changes are not just policy updates they’re about protecting people like you, who deserve better.
What to Expect from a Safe, Ethical Provider
Even if you don’t choose us, make sure your weight loss care includes:
- 🔹 A real consultation (virtual or in-person) with a qualified prescriber
- 🔹 Personalised titration plan based on your progress
- 🔹 Nutritional and emotional support
- 🔹 Transparent information on risks and side effects
- 🔹 Follow-up and access to ask questions at every stage
- ❌ No discount codes. No influencers. No pressure sales.
If you feel like you’re navigating this alone, or if you’ve been handed a pen without a plan know that it doesn’t have to be that way.
What Makes The London PharmaClinic Different
When you choose The London PharmaClinic, you get:
- A team led by me, Sukhi Basra, an Independent Prescribing Pharmacist with 27+ years in NHS and private care
- Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Practice (University of Bath)
- SCOPE-certified obesity care (Strategic Centre for Obesity Professional Education)
- Accreditation from the National Medical Weight Loss Programme
- A clinic built on clinical integrity, compassion, and personalised support
And perhaps most importantly, you get someone who will go away, find the answers, and come back to explain it all because your questions matter, and your journey deserves care that listens.
What Patients Say
Here’s what one patient recently shared in a verified Trustpilot review:
“Sukhi is a lovely professional lady with a lot of empathy. She checked on me the following week and replied to my emails. She reassured me at my follow-up and gave me the courage to begin. The process will take time but I finally feel confident it’s the right thing for me.”
That’s the difference. That’s what this clinic was built for.
Your Journey Deserves More Than a Discount
If you’re considering Mounjaro, Wegovy, or any weight loss treatment:
- Ask questions
- Expect better
- Don’t settle for silence when what you need is support
You deserve to be treated with clinical care, not commercial urgency.

FAQs
Q: Do I really need to go up to the highest dose to see results?
A: Not always. Many patients respond well to lower or micro-doses, especially when paired with lifestyle changes and clinical support. Rushing up the doses can lead to more side effects and isn’t always necessary.
Q: Why can’t I use a discount code for weight loss medication anymore?
A: Because prescription-only medicines (POMs) are regulated. The MHRA and ASA now prohibit promotions or discounting of POMs to protect patient safety and prevent unethical marketing.
Q: What should I look for in a safe weight loss clinic?
A: A real clinical consultation (not just a form), personalised support, access to qualified prescribers, and no pressure to escalate doses quickly. Also, no use of influencer advertising or discount gimmicks.
Q: How is The London PharmaClinic different from online-only providers?
A: We offer a relationship not just a prescription. You’ll be cared for by a qualified, experienced clinician who supports you holistically physically, emotionally, and ethically.
Q: Is it normal to feel anxious starting this journey?
A: Yes. And that’s why we’re here. With the right support, knowledge, and care, this doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. You don’t have to walk it alone.
